Premises

We have planned our house and garden to be a home from home for the children that I childmind.

The playroom is designed to be welcoming, inviting, fun and stimulating. There is a book area, comfy area and play area, and on the walls there are posters and pictures of numbers, letters and other educational materials. The children have freedom and access to the toys and equipment.

The toys are displayed on the shelving unit or in clear boxes so that the children themselves can see and choose what they’d like to do. With the exception of toys designed for older children like Lego which are out of reach to younger children.

The kitchen is where we have all meals, snacks and drinks, and where all the craft and messy/exploratory play takes place (with the exception of summer when we can do all the above outside too).

The Garden is designed to be as safe as possible for children; the trampoline and climbing frame are positioned on the purpose built rubber safety area, which has a hopscotch and chess board design within. We have a large awning positioned above the rubber for extra shade in the summer.

There is a large area of grass and the garden is spacious enough for running and other physical activity. We have a play castle which the children can play inside and the older children can climb up the ladder to the turret (Second enclosed floor).

There is a sand box and the toy shed is full of fun activities and toys to use in the garden. We do have a swing but it is only used with adult supervision. The garden has plenty of interesting and stimulating things to look at from the plants that we grow to the birds, trees, fairies, windmills etc.

I always plan with plenty of room for flexibility and spontaneity, with play being the key to the children’s own learning. If they enjoy what they are doing then they learn without realising.

The children that I childmind are always happy to attend and enjoy their time me and my family as my testimonials support.

Because of the scale of my setting I am able to offer the children more personalised care, by opening up our home as a second home to them, a place where they can feel comfortable, safe, welcomed, stimulated and above all happy, an environment to nurture their overall learning and development.
